A landscape scale approach involves a wide range of partners and local communities working together to identify what needs to happen in the area and find solutions together to help achieve multiple benefits for people and wildlife.
When we talk about delivery of biodiversity projects within recognised landscape areas and the Strategic Nature Areas (SNAs) which comprise the Gloucestershire Nature Map we mean this to:
cover any activity which brings benefits to ecosystems, habitats and species (biodiversity)
or enhances understanding of biodiversity which contributes to the objectives for an area as set out and agreed by the partnerships working in them.
This includes (this list is by no means exhaustive):
- Practical work on the ground for habitats or species such as scrub clearance or ditch management to maintain, create or restore a habitat;
- Surveys or other monitoring work;
- Information giving - either directly through signage etc or walks and events; Educational/awareness raising work;
- Project planning and implementation;
- Gains through planning;
- Gains through Agri-environment/woodland schemes.
The lists below, arranged by landscape areas which make up the Gloucestershire Nature Map, is not meant to capture all the nature conservation work happening in the county, but rather provide an overview of where local biodiversity partnerships and partners are currently directing resources to facilitate landscape scale conservation and ecosystem recovery.
